Nico Steckelberg (Hörspiegel): It’s not a long time since your last album „Maaäet“ had been released in Germany. And now we have again a brand new Tenhi release with „Airut:aamuien“. Is it really a new release?

Tyko Saarikko (Tenhi): It was recorded at the same time we did the Maaäet, in a way it is another side of the coin. In was made just by me and Ilmari from Tenhi and that is why it was originally released by our collective and under the name Harmaa. After we signed it also to Prophecy we wanted to release it under Tenhi as it is new chapter for the Tenhi's airut:saga.

Nico: Please tell us more about the Airut-Saga.

Tyko Saarikko: Airut:saga takes further the paths of certain Tenhi songs, they are a bit more experimental and build upon one theme. The airut:ciwi and airut:aamujen are based on the feeling we got from the song 'Kielo' from 'Kauan' sessions.

Nico: Is there a special song on the new album that you like the most? And if so, why?

Tyko Saarikko: Maybe 'Oikea sointi, it has great melody and build- up that works with the lyrics. Great feeling.

Nico: What is the best time to write songs for you? Talking about daytime as well as time of the year.

Tyko Saarikko: The early hours of morning with a cup of coffee. The night has cleared my sences and the fury of the day hasn't messed up my mind yet. The time of the year doesn't matter as there are always something new to experience and pastures to trample.

Nico: I think, Tenhi’s songs are quite different from other bands‘ songs. How do you start working on them? And how do you create your vocal lines? Played with an instrument in the beginning?

Tyko Saarikko: Normaly I or Ilmari come up with the ground idea of the songs and then we represent it to each other and start working with it. Then we make different instrument arrangements to get the wanted result. The vocals are usually improvised over the almost ready song, I choose the lyrics to fit the mood of the songs and then just do my best to get them fit.

Nico: If you had the chance to compose a song with any musician who had ever lived on this planet at any time, who would this be?

Tyko Saarikko: Impossible to say, at the moment I could image doing stuff with Krzysztof Komeda who has composed music for Roman Polanski's films.

Nico: Which are the last 3 album CDs that you bought for yourself?

Tyko Saarikko: Wolfmother - Wolfmother, Nick Cave - The Proposition sound track, Glenn Danzig  - Black Aria II.

Nico: Will there be Tenhi live performances this or next year?

Tyko Saarikko: I am learned not to promise anything. I wish we could do some shows but it seems the only possibility is to do more acoustic based gigs with few memmers. The four sessions musicians makes the schedules hard to arrange.

Nico: Thank you very much!

Tyko Saarikko: Thanks and cheers.
