Thomas Skroch (Hörspiegel): Hi Christer! Congratulations, I think you have released an amazing album. How long have you worked on this album?

Christer (Stille Opprör): Thank you!
The songs where made between 2001 and 2007. I didn’t spend a lot of hours recording the album but the studio sessions where spread out over some years as my work as an engineer/producer and my other band, Animal Alpha has been the main focus the last years. So there hasn’t been time for long period studio sessions with stille opprør. But better late than never, finally it’s finished.

Hörspiegel: Your debut album has been released some years ago, and isn’t available anymore. With all this good critics so far, do you think there is a chance to re-release this album?

Christer: Maybe. I’ve thought about it.
The debut album is very different from this new album and not as representative, but it might be released as a limited edition release some time.

Hörspiegel: The music seems to be perfect for listening to it with headphones. Is there a chance to see Stille Opprör on a stage somewhere in the near future, or is the band only a studio project?

Christer: I recently did the first ever concert with Stille opprör at the split- release party I did with Transit. (Jan from ITW… I produced that album.)
I had a great band with me and it sounded great. We’ll do another gig soon and hopefully we’ll get to tour some in the future.

Hörspiegel: Which bands did influence you on the work of the album? It seems that you have a wide range of musical interest.

Christer: I don’t know actually. I don’t have any specific bands in mind when making music, but I am inspired by bands such as Tool and Radiohead when it comes to arrangements. I didn’t want to make any compromises with this project so if it took 10 minutes to tell the whole story, the song had to be 10 minutes long. I think this is something I have from these bands and bands as Led Zeppelin, King Crimson etc

Hörspiegel: Which kind of instruments do you play? Is it helpful, to play a lot of other instruments, or is it better to concentrate only on one certain instrument?

Christer: My main instrument is the guitar. It’s good to know how to play several instruments as a producer and as a songwriter because you have a better understanding of the whole build up of a song.
I played guitar, keys and percussion on the album but had a lot of good help from some other great musicians.
They are extremely important for the album as I’ve given them freedom to add their sonic signature and to improvise over the songs. I didn’t want to colour this project with only my own sounds. All in all there are 18 session musicians, something that has made a diverse album. There are for example 4 drummers on this record who all have very different styles, so every song got the right groove as I could choose who was going to play the different songs.

Hörspiegel: You played in one of the greatest Norwegian bands of all times: In the woods... Are you, beside with Transit, still in contact with some of the guys? Do the other ones still make music?

Christer: I speak to Anders (drums) and Synne (vocals) from time to time. Anders plays in a couple of metal bands, and the twins (Christian and Christopher) both make at least an album a year it seems. So some of them are still very productive.

Hörspiegel: Thank you for the interview, and I hope the next album will be as good as s. 02!

Christer: Thank you for some great questions!
Take care.
Christer
